At a permission we recently attained, the hay had just gotten cut earlier this week.  The only time I had over the weekend just happened to be during a rain storm!  Brian and I were troopers and metal detecting during the light rain and then a torrential downpour came and ended our search early.

We were able to RECOVER a few goodies while we were out and about.  I found a dropped 3-ring bullet, later identified as a  .54 Caliber Merrill Carbine Bullet.  As I was filling in my hole, Brian started walking over and mentioned he had found a large silver coin.  After a little field cleaning from the rain, it turned out to be a 1943 Washington Quarter.  That’s when the heavy rain came!  Still weathering the storm, I was able to RECOVER a flat button, probably dating back to Pre-Civil War times.  Unfortunately, my camera doesn’t like rain and wasn’t able to film the recovery.

And, neither does my detector.  It soon did nothing but Overload.  I knew water had gotten into the machine somehow.  I quickly removed the battery holder and after a couple of days of drying out, I replaced the batteries and it fired right up.  All we do to find history!
