What say you ? Dug this where I've recovered several other mid/late 1800 early 1900 items.........any ideas ? Any way to date these things ?

I'm not sure on what the item is, but it's interesting that the part thats
broken off looks to have been on outside of the item.

It's definitely some kind of decoration on something old. I know that. But what old thing is the question. A piece to a powder flask is a good guess. The way the rim is folded over leads me to think it was the lid to something.
